Aldair Alvarez obtained his PhD in Industrial Engineering in March 2020 from the Federal University of São Carlos, Brazil, where he worked under the supervision of Professors Pedro Munari and Reinaldo Morabito. His thesis involved the development of different mathematical and computational approaches for logistics problems integrating inventory management and vehicle routing decisions in real-world settings. As a postdoctoral fellow, his research interests focus on the study and solution of joint production planning and routing problems with practical considerations, and vehicle routing problems under uncertainty. The solution methods he develops include exact decomposition approaches and hybrid heuristic algorithms. In addition, Aldair also collaborates with a start-up company in Montreal (YPC Technologies) that develops robotic cooking systems. As part of this collaboration, he is implementing optimization algorithms for the scheduling of complex jobs in resource-constrained environments appearing in the operation of these automated systems. Aldair was one of the winners of the 13th GERAD postdoctoral fellowship competition.
